Van Dyck

This is a work in progress copy of a Van Dyck(perhapes the best portrait ever painted).

  1. nice painting man. I am in a project called pushing pigments and this was one of the challenges to copy this head. if you would like i'd love to have the process shots on the blog.

  2. sure Brian, but i didnt pay to much attention to the process, i just wanted to get to this stage to study the edge quality and the temperature shifts in the the flesh. As u can tell the drawing is off as it wasn't my main concern.. but i do have photos of it in different stages on my crappy phone camera(i will try to put them up and u can see if u can make use of them). next one will be plotted out much better and i will post the process as i go along.

  3. Great man, once you post the other photos i'll just cut and paste everything to the pushing pigments blog with a link to your blog. I wouldn't worry about the drawing too much. when i did mine i also took some liberties with the drawing. the point of it was just to see things through the eyes of van dyck and try to steal a little of his magic. it really is a great portrait though. i really learned a lot from copying it.
